David Hoffmeister’s Foundation for the Awakening Mind is about Awakening to the truth of who we are. It is a collaborative venture of undoing the ego and learning to live a life that is truly inspired by A Course in Miracles. Every moment is a gift; an invitation to extend the Love that we are, and to forgive what is blocking the awareness of our true Identity.
David Hoffmeister is the inspiration that has drawn the Awakening Mind community together. His radiant joy and boundless energy are the effects of letting go of the ego and identifying completely with Spirit. He radiates the experience that can be reached through single-minded devotion to forgiveness. Since the early 1990s, students of non-duality and A Course in Miracles have felt drawn to David Hoffmeister for his profound love and devotion to truth. Over the many years since David began his traveling ministry, a community has organically grown around him consisting of those who wished to follow his example of pure devotion to God and selfless Love. Spiritual community has nothing to do with specificity in form; it isn’t about including or recruiting people, or growing and expanding. It is a ministry in mind—a state of mind of total peace, Love, and constant happiness. That is what the Foundation for the Awakening Mind extends and shares. Living A Course in Miracles in spiritual community, as all symbols, can be allowed to be used in the most helpful way for the whole. Awakening is not individual or personal; Awakening is of the whole, of the one mind waking up, getting in touch with everything it believes so it can be released. In order for us to accept the truth of who we are, and receive the gift that God wants us to have and be—true happiness—we have to allow the flow of Spirit to wash us of everything that is not Love.
The Foundation for the Awakening Mind’s sole focus is the purpose of experiencing inner peace through the practical application of forgiveness as taught in A Course in Miracles. As the Course says, “A universal theology is impossible, but a universal experience is not only possible but necessary. It is this experience toward which the course is directed.” (ACIM, C-in.2:5-6) Therefore, all of the tools and resources made available through the Foundation aim at supporting this practical application. What Is Awakening?
What is Awakening really? A Course in Miracles defines Awakening as the end of the dream of separation, conflict, fear, pain, and death, and the experience of the reality of the joy, peace and the Love of God. The meaning of Awakening therefore is experiential and not fully describable in words. Awakening occurs when the mind is willing and ready. The last step in Awakening is taken by God. Thus Awakening cannot be planned; it can only be a spontaneous occurrence.
Just as our dreams cannot be relied upon to tell us of our waking state, we cannot understand what lies beyond spiritual Awakening from within the dream. What we can talk about is spiritual Awakening symptoms or signs. These are the miracles of forgiveness, which are the focus of the training of A Course in Miracles. This training is therefore not on how to awaken your psychic abilities but rather on seeing reflections of truth within the dream. These are the moments where you learn experientially that there is no separation between you and your brother. The ego will attempt to twist and turn these experiences into specialness, fragmenting love into specifics. Centering prayer on inner Awakening focuses on the practice of forgiveness so errors of differences and specialness can be replaced by the experience of oneness in the holy instant, for God has only one Son.
Truth Is True
There is no problem to be solved in the acceptance of atonement, for the truth is true and nothing else is true! I thank God! There is nothing to fear in seeing the world as meaningless, for from His Perspective it is realized that you are the Meaning. Who you are is the only Meaning! There is no meaning outside of one Self, for there is nothing outside of you. Such is the truth! There is an experience that brings an end to all uncertainty and an end to all questions. The experience of Love is divinely inspired and changelessly eternal. Love does not come and go or rise and set like the sun, nor does it shine brightly only to fade and disappear for a time. Love is not personal or specific. It is impossible to love something specific, for Love is whole and knows no parts. Love is without an opposite, being everything God creates forever. Divine mind is God, is Love, is you, is all. Accept now the eternal Love of God. What else could be more worthy of your acceptance? There is nothing to seek and nothing to find, only everything to accept right now. I am Love. Such is the Truth. ~ David Hoffmeister
